Ocean liner glamour meets lakeside setting at this 80 seat restaurant at the Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa. Totally refurbished in early 2022, The W could just as easily stand for ‘wow’ as ‘Windermere’, what with its grandeur, size and elegant makeover.

Art Deco images, mirrored wall panelling and huge globe lights provide the setting for both breakfast and candlelit dinner. The latter offers a seasonal British and continental menu, so for starters expect dishes such as Port of Lancaster smoked salmon; porcini Ravioli; warm falafel; coquilles St Jacques; and crispy teriyaki glazed pork belly skewer.

Fillet of beef Wellington has long been a favourite of diners here - this was once the Windermere Restaurant - and joins the likes of veal saltimbocca; butter roasted skate wing; The W burger; salt-aged roast duck breast; and turbot meunière amongst the possibilities for main courses.

As for desserts, the sticky toffee pudding has been ‘proudly served at the resort for over two hundred years and remains something not to be missed,’ says the Low Wood. That said, the ’50-mile cheese trolley’, featuring artisan cheeses from Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire, may be just as tempting for those who dine here.
