Pubs, inns and bars
It’s only a few steps to the lake shore, so on warmer days you can sit in the garden and soak up the views of water and Lakeland fell. Even inside, you can appreciate the location, thanks to the large windows.
There’s a continental feel to this small bar at the Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, what with its globe lights, mirrors and a part wooden, part black and white tiled floor.
A smokehouse and microbrewery add to the attraction of this well known, welcoming inn, four miles (6.4km) east of Bowness-on-Windermere on the B5284.
It would have made a great location for a castle but they built a pub instead - and how fortunate was that? Much loved and full of character, the Masons Arms has priceless views over the Winster Valley towards Whitbarrow Scar and is a main entry in the Good Pub Guide 2020.
‘Tucked away in the sleepy village of Crosthwaite, the Punch Bowl is one of Cumbria’s great treasures.’ So said the travel section of The Times of this 300 year old inn, a main entry in the 2020 editions of the Good Hotel Guide, Good Food Guide and Good Pub Guide.
