With eight new luxurious suites open in May 2022 and the hotel named Best Dining Experience in the UK and Ireland at the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2022, there is much to celebrate at Rothay Manor.

A Michelin Plate was also awarded in 2021 while head chef, Dan McGeorge, was crowned Champion of Champions on BBC Two’s Great British Menu a few months later. He also won the Restaurant Chef award at the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards 2022.

The new suites are housed in The Pavilion, a contemporary looking building where each individually designed suite features, as the hotel says, ‘enormous beds, seating areas and stylish ensuite bathrooms’. The four bedrooms on the ground floor have private gardens, leading out to the hotel’s main garden.

Once the home of a Liverpool merchant, Rothay Manor is a fine looking Regency building, dating from 1823 and Grade II listed. ‘It pleases, inside and out,’ says the Good Hotel Guide 2022, talking of the gardens and grounds, the two dining rooms, the drawing room, the bar lounge and the 15 individually styled bedrooms in the original hotel.

Those bedrooms exude ‘modern country house charm’, with free wi-fi, satellite TV, minibars, Nespresso machines, fluffy bathrobes and towels, and super king size beds. Superior and superior plus rooms offer balconies - flower bedecked in summer - overlooking the garden, whilst the Red Screes Garden Suite has its own private hot tub.

Four bedrooms are dog friendly, as is the Brathay Room, a more informal alternative to the fine dining restaurant where the cooking, says the Good Hotel Guide, is a ‘class act’. The bar lounge and drawing room are a comfortable setting for pre-dinner drinks or afternoon tea.
