Natural skincare. Pure Lakes

The Lake District has inspired writers and artists for over 200 years and in Staveley near Kendal it’s also inspiring this family business and its range of skincare, ‘made with natural and, where possible, organic ingredients, ethically sourced from sustainable origins’.

Pure Lakes was set up in 2006 and taken on ten years later by Claire and Gareth McKeever. With a small team, they make a range of almost 100 products that embrace body lotions, shampoos, soaps, bath foams and massage and bath oils, lip balms, hydration creams, hand sanitisers, foaming shaving gels, muscle and joint bath soaks, and reed diffusers.

There’s a skincare range, a bath and body range, a therapeutic range and a men’s grooming range, with a number of award winners amongst them all. ’None of our products contain synthetic ingredients, parabens or SLSs (sodium lauryl sulfate), and we never test on animals,’ says the couple.

Grapefruit and Lemongrass Hand and Body Lotion; Basil, Lemon and Frankincense Gentle Facial Exfoliator; Geranium, Lavender and Ylang Ylang Facial Hydration Cream; Chamomile, Calendula and Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Hand Balm; and Moringa, Kiwi Seed and Sea Buckthorn Beard Oil are only five of the products on offer.

‘Simply the best body lotion that I’ve ever used,’ said one happy customer. ‘A fantastic local company,’ echoed another. Pure Lakes also sells a dozen or so gift sets, such as a Pure Cyclist Gift Set, a Pure Gardener Gift Set, a Pure Body Gift Set and a Pure Bath Gift Set.

What also catches the eye about this business is that it gives 2% of all online sales to two charities - the Honeypot Children’s Charity and West Cumbria Carers.

It’s also a big believer in minimal packaging. Hence its refill service where customers can send back empty bottles to be filled again, ‘a true cost neutral solution to reducing single use packaging’.
