Keswick. Lakeland Gifts

If you’re heading along Lake Road between the town centre and the shores of Derwentwater, be sure to visit this delightful shop, devoted to the excellent food and drink of Cumbrian producers.

Opened in 2021 by family owned Lakeland Artisan, the shop sells a whole range of jams, preserves, beers, olives, teas, puddings, Kendal mint cake, spirits and more.

Produce from Lakeland Artisan, which itself has won over 70 Great Taste Awards over the last few years for its jams, marmalades, pickles, mustards, drinks and sauces, is well represented in the shop.

But you’ll also see the likes of Mr Vikki’s pickles, Cartmel Sticky Toffee chocolates, Silver & Green olives, Kin Toffee Vodka, The Lakes Distillery whisky, Penningtons Hot Chocolate, teas from both Cumbrian Tea and Y-tea and Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake.

Of course when you talk about Cumbrian produce you can’t ignore the fact that there are some 30 or so small breweries in the county, many of them now bottling their own beers.

So here’s something of a roll call as to the beers you might find here at Lakeland Gifts: ones from Great Corby Brewhouse, Cumbrian Ales, Coniston Brewery, Lakeland Brewhouse, Tirril Brewery, Keswick Brewery, Lakes Brew Co, Bowness Bay Brewing, Windermere Brewery and Hesket Newmarket Brewery. It’s a great selection and one which is proving very popular indeed.

Lakeland Artisan doesn’t produce its own beers yet but in the summer of 2021 it launched a fifth brand under the Lakeland Artisan umbrella: Herdwick Distillery. Success came pretty quickly because its Yan Gin picked up one star at the Great Taste Awards a few weeks later. There’s Fell Tonic as well to go with the gin.
