Food producers

‘Mixing generosity, fairness and adventure to create the perfect cakes for cafes, shops and you’. That’s the ethos of Ginger Bakers whose range of cakes, tarts, loaf cakes and traybakes are made with ‘heaps of love’ at Ginger HQ just outside Kendal.

Founded some years ago but built on a long heritage of cheese making in the town, Appleby Creamery produces a range of over a dozen distinctive cheeses, a number of them winning awards around the country over the last few years.

‘If you’re looking for delicious handmade chocolates for a gift or as a luxury treat, then you’ve found the right website’. That’s the invitation from Saunders Chocolates, artisan chocolate producers in Cumbria since 2003.

Unfiregettable. That’s probably the feeling of many thousands of people who’ve savoured Mr Vikki’s range of pickles, sauces, jams, mustards and chutneys since Adam Marks set up the business in 2005.

Not far off its 25th birthday, English Lakes Ice Cream has become one of the most recognisable food names in Cumbria, winner of three Great Taste Awards in 2019, the first time it had entered the ‘food industry Oscars’.

What began as Friendly Food and Drink in 2006 - with a gold at the Great Taste Awards the following year - became Lakeland Artisan in 2018, the business now embracing Cumbrian Delights, Mawson’s Original Drinks, Lakeland Hampers and Lakeland Liqueurs.

Winner of numerous Great Taste Awards and prizes at the Dalemain World Marmalade Awards, Claire’s Handmade is a familiar and favoured producer of preserves, chutneys, relishes and other condiments.

This is one of the big names of Cumbrian producers, makers of more than 120 different relishes, pickles and preserves which between them have won over 60 Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food.

This year (2020) is the 30th anniversary of this great Cumbrian food name, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding sent and sold to people right across the UK and the rest of the world. Sticky ginger, sticky chocolate, sticky banana, Christmas pudding, sticky figgy pudding and sticky toffee apple crumble are part of the family as well.

More food producers based in this area include Grasmere Gingerbread.
